Step 5: Collect Assessment Data

After finalizing your assessment rubric (Step 4), your next task is to collect data by evaluating student work using your rubric. There are several ways you can approach this step:

Canvas: Work with Assessment Team to input rubric into Canvas through the designated Outcomes function, and export results through the Learning Mastery Gradebook.

Paper & pen: Print out hard copies of the rubric (one per student being assessed); faculty member marks each student’s level of proficiency in each criterion directly on the rubric

Excel: Create spreadsheet with student IDs (rows) and criteria (columns); faculty member enters in 1, 2, 3, or 4 to indicate each student’s level of proficiency in each criterion

E-rubric: Send your rubric to the Assessment Team; assessment specialists create a customized e-rubric where faculty members indicate each student’s level of proficiency in each criterion using a dropdown menu or multiple choice

After collecting the assessment data and evaluating all of the student work, the next step is to send the data to Assessment Team, who will conduct customized data analyses (Step 6).
